How do you draw a dream?

Perhaps painting dreams is a dangerous pursuit. It materializes internal, subconscious, and deeply personal processes and makes them visible, real, and accessible at any moment. It is uncertain how this would play out, but I will take the risk nonetheless.

A materialized picture of an inner affirmation, a locked moment.

And how do you draw a dream?

First, you take the images from the dream and its idea. You find similar real objects as images in combination with your imagination and develop the composition. The drawing cannot be exactly the same as in the dream, but it can still resemble the feeling that the dream brought.

I recently dreamed of an owl, bright, almost white, and behind it, crows, black as night, perched on something like an arch. I interpret the symbols of what I saw – the crows, part of the inner “shadows” – fear, shame, anger, pride, and sadness, and the owl in the foreground symbolizes wisdom, light, and the displacement of the darkness of inner turmoil.

WORK IN PROGRESS…

(to be continued)

The result of painting dreams… you feel the reality of the illusion. You find yourself somewhere between them.

It turned out to be a prelude to my next book, “Chasing Shadows.” I don’t know if it will be part of it, time will tell. I’m starting again, and it will be a while before I finish it.

Sketchbooks ( 2014-2021 ) – APASH illustration

Known for her animalistic passion for illustration, in this exhibition APASH will show you a different side of her work. Sketchbooks is a personal exhibition that contains over 40 selected moments from the illustrator’s sketches. For the past 7 years in more than 20 drawing diaries are preserved memories of travels, quiet moments, people met by chance and non-accidental personalities, exquisite creatures and found thoughts. Going through the technique of pencil and fine pen, the living line of her drawing sparingly builds memorable shape and volume.

What do I need to know when ordering a portrait

Photos
Photos are extremely important for the development of detail. I need them as much as possible to get a better idea of the dog. Please to be without flash, if possible from a camera or with a high quality. To be with a low horizon (at the level of the animal, not photographed from above). The most suitable are the photos in a sitting or standing position, close-up and if possible without the tongue out. Photos taken too far away, out of focus, lying down or hugging, are not suitable.

From them I will choose the most suitable one or I will combine. You can send them as an archived file or download link  illustration.apash@gmail.com.

Please do not send them via facebook or instagram because social networks reduce image quality.

More than one portrait
There is no problem with a portrait of two or three dogs, a dog and a kitten, and any other options. I will be able to give you a specific price after discussing the details.

I do not include human figures in the portraits.

Technique
Portraits can be painted with aquarelle, pencil or ink (I often combine).
After seeing the pictures, I can recommend the technique.

Please keep in mind that my drawings are of impression and expressionism rather than photorealism and differences are possible. I chase similarities of course, but they are not exactly the same as the photo.

Accessory
Sometimes I add accessories to the dogs – something that would suit them, their favorite item etc.
You can let me know if you would like to add something specific – hat, scarf, glasses, bow tie and so on.

Size
I usually work in about 21/30 cm (A4) format, which is sufficient to develop a detail. If you would like the drawing to be larger, you can send me a request my email.

Frame
The frame is not included in the price, but you can tell me if you want to get the portrait framed.
The final price for it is is defined by the type of frame, glass and size.

Deadline
Deadlines are determined by additional agreement.
If you are chasing a certain date, you can inform me and if I have the opportunity I will comply with it.

* Please note that the minimum time for order completion is 10 days and I’m unable to accept urgent orders.
